Background: The balcony on my functionalist house is under repair, as it was leaking like a sieve and the plaster on the underside, as well as smaller concrete parts here and there, break away every winter.
Originally it looked like this:
Tiles (many cracked)
Setting concrete, or some sandier type of concrete, about 4-5 cm
Asphalt
Concrete slab
The plan was to use a more modern waterproofing layer than asphalt and then set frost-resistant tiles on top.
I have now removed everything down to the asphalt, which I have gone over with a concrete scraper purchased for the purpose at Ekesiöö. A terribly tough job, but I can remove all loose material with it. However, a thin layer remains. I have been to Cramo and another rental company to see if they had anything to remove asphalt, and both came up short.
I have now done about 1 square meter with the angle grinder, and I'm starting to feel worn out and thinking "give up."
The question I'm starting to ask myself: does all the asphalt need to be removed? Is there a substance that can be applied directly, or should I simply continue with asphalt (I assume it can be purchased at hardware stores)?
