We've been hit with some asbestos paranoia after pulling up some kind of cement slab under the oven.
We live in an apartment from 1939 and have torn out the kitchen (moved to another room) and are now planning to fix the walls and floor in the old kitchen. Under the stove/oven, there were tiles that we easily chipped away. Under the tiles was some kind of cement slab that we also needed to remove to be able to lay new floorboards. After prying off the cement slab, we started to worry that it might have been some kind of asbestos board, as there likely was a gas oven here in the original kitchen.
Does anyone here have any knowledge?
We wrapped the plastic bin with the cement, but we still feel a bit anxious since our bedroom is located close to the room.
It looks like regular concrete. A grout that was previously used to set the tiles directly in. This constant obsession with everything containing asbestos.......
My electricity teacher in high school had to have a lung removed because he was exposed to asbestos. But he had been exposed to it for about 40 consecutive years and was a smoker. If that plate had contained asbestos, nothing would have happened, I dare say.
