Hello.
I have a house from 1967 with a basement.
I plan to have tiles in the basement.
Currently, there is vinyl flooring in square tiles like outdoor decking. They are loose (as if the adhesive has let go of them). I'm wondering if there is asbestos in the adhesive they used. The glue is not black as I've found from my googling. The concrete looks like regular concrete. I've taken some pictures of different areas.
One picture shows it directly glued to the concrete. The other picture shows the mat glued to a plywood board (I believe it's a plywood board).
The reason it's a bit dark on the board is that there has been water on it.
How can I determine if there is asbestos or not? The area where we are going to lay tiles is large.
What do you mean would contain asbestos?
Looks like masonite in the second picture.
The plastic mat itself is presumably made of plastic?
Then it's concrete, right??
It looks like Korkoplast, a flooring material with a layer of real cork under the plastic layer, with a white plastic layer under the cork. It was made in squares or rectangles that were glued to the substrate. Most looked like the image below, but there was also a more exclusive variant with cut cork that looked like yours. Korkoplast contains no asbestos.
