The wife and I have become obsessed with the "archipelago look" and therefore want to put up raw pine on the wall in the hallway and paint it white. (I know…shabby chic :))

How the heck do I do this best?

The wall is a regular drywall. If I put up cross battens to be able to nail the tongue and groove, e.g. 5mm MDF, and then 17mm raw pine, it will stick out 10mm beyond the door frames and window sashes. How do you solve that problem?

Ignoring the cross battens and nailing directly into the drywall doesn't seem like a good idea. I considered routing out the drywall and placing the wooden battens, but even then the tongue and groove ends up a bit beyond the door frames/window sashes. Installing new door frames and window sashes is not an option. Nor is removing the drywall.

Does anyone have any good suggestions?

Glue? Find the studs behind the drywall and nail into them? You don't have to tear down the drywall to find them.

You can probably solve it with a klackfoder, see image.

  • Drawing of a klackfoder, dimensions 21x56 mm, with side and cross-section views, including measurements and angles.

Already checked ... unfortunately, there are no cross-studs in the walls...

Hmmm...interesting, will investigate...thanks!

Why not do as Henke suggested. The most common practice today is to place the råspont horizontally. (I believe that's what he meant). Then it is perfectly fine to nail into the standing studs.

+1 on that! Horizontal looks just as nice and "skärgård" as vertical and is much easier in this situation...

Sorry, the wife flatly refuses horizontal boards...:)

Thought only horses flatly refused ;)
It might be easier to exchange the wife than to please her :D
Just hope she doesn't refuse all horizontal positions...

Well, but she is very much into the vertical...;)

Yes, sometimes you just have to ställa upp !
