How do you attach a post off-center?

Can you attach a wide 145x45 piece and then secure the post to one side, or will it crack if someone falls against the railing?

Are there better ways?

Background:

I'm building a balcony railing on a balcony that's covered with sheet metal.

I don't want to screw through the metal, but I need a railing. The balcony is about 345cm wide and approximately 147cm deep.

I was thinking of attaching a 70x70 pressure-treated beam to the wall and then running a crossbeam/board to the other railing posts.

Now I have a problem because there isn't a beam in the wall at the farthest point; it's about 7-10 cm from where I want the post.

I guess it won't be securely attached if I only attach it to the siding boards; I need to screw it into a beam to prevent the railing from giving way.

Bad idea with extra plank.

1) Use angle brackets, or

2) If possible, toe-screw in sturdy franska.
