Hello forum.
I have a basement that will soon be drained. There have been some paint peeling and salt crystals, but not a generally humid environment in the basement. In the boiler room, it hasn't been painted, but I thought I'd take the opportunity to do it at the same time.
My plan is to go over it with a coarser brush and then paint.
My question is if any other action is needed beforehand so as not to "trap" anything between the wall and the paint. Like applying anti-mold treatment or plastering, etc.

Grateful for answers.

  • Basement wall with peeling paint and salt crystals evident, showing signs of past moisture but not overly damp. Ceiling appears textured.
What color is it now and what color were you thinking of painting with?

On the wall in the picture, there is no color, it has been unpainted from the start. I'm considering if any action is needed, like mold removal agent. The color will probably be a silicate paint.
