I need to replace some 115x115 pillars that support the roof over the porch as mine have rotted either due to the design itself with its railing or because they were painted incorrectly. (not enclosed or similar, it's pillars and railing)

I want as few knots as possible and sooner or later I wish to paint them.

The crucial factor is how much rain they are exposed to.
For example, if it only gets rain-soaked once a year, then ordinary untreated spruce is sufficient. If it gets rain-soaked almost every time it rains, then it's heartwood, heart pine/pitch pine/slow-grown or pressure-treated wood that is needed.
What was installed there that is now bad, and how long has it been there? If it's painted with the wrong paint, it obviously speeds up the decay.
