Laying raw board + felt on old board-and-batten roof
Hello everyone,
We need to replace the roof quite urgently on the house we bought because the old lock panel is quite damaged due to some tiles having slid down and not being addressed.
The roof rests on lengthwise beams, which seem very fine and are not affected as far as I can see.
Could we remove the damaged part of the lock panel roof and replace it with fresh wood, and then apply raw plank/boarding 20mm lengthwise on top of that?
The idea is to then lay a diffusion-open roof membrane as we want to insulate all the way out to the old lock panel along with battens and clay tiles on top of that.
Regards,
Fredrik

It should work.

Is it the so-called old roof covering that barns had, wood from top to bottom with locks, the longitudinal rafters usually don't rot as they are completely free from the roof, if you lay rough plank on it, it's good ventilation under it, just that it's open at the ridge. Had the same, laid battens across with sheet metal on the barn, got a bit bigger for the air, but it's like a tornado under the sheet metal.
