I have a persistent woodpecker (red/white/black) that keeps pecking on my house. He did this in the morning. He has also been in several places.
How do I fix this? Putty and paint? It's a few centimeters deep.
How can I show the woodpecker that I mean business?

  • Damage to a red wooden house caused by a woodpecker, with visible chipped and splintered wood near a white window frame.
  • Woodpecker damage on a red painted window frame showing a deep gouge in the wood.

A bird of prey silhouette like a goshawk is said to work well if moved around or hung up to flutter. A neighbor at my dad's place put up an old dusty stuffed greater woodpecker as a decoy, which reportedly kept the live woodpecker away. It might be that the decoy made it a claimed territory.

Plastic Padding Elastic is what I would probably have used. superspackel-medium-elastic-ppadding-560ml.jpg
And then maybe supplemented with a little outdoor sealant.

The question is first and foremost why the woodpecker insists on going in there. I think you should start by contacting Anticimex or Nomor to find out if there are, for example, ants or wasps somewhere in the house. The woodpecker is pecking because it believes there's food there and typically has an unfailing instinct for such things.
