Considering using larch wood as gutters and brass chains as downspouts. Does anyone have experience? Are the materials okay? Is there anything better? Where can you find thick brass chains?

I know a building antiquarian who is renovating a 19th-century cottage. For gutters, he uses larch which he paints/treats/soaks/impregnates with warm Hälsingetjära in several rounds. First all the loose pieces, then assembly, and then a new round of tar, etc. It is supposed to last for a few years.

Line the inside of the gutter with roofing felt.

Check with the kättingmäster about the brass chain they might have, if not, they might know where you can get such http://www.bemascandinavia.se/

I personally used galvanized ones from biltema.
