Hey! I'm thinking of building a shed/shelter, large enough to also feed 4 horses there. I assume this places greater demands on the construction because it should withstand some impact from larger forces. I was thinking it should have a passage through the shelter, so a maximum of 2 walls. Anyone have tips, alternatively links to a solution. Grateful for any responses.

Check with the veterinarian or the Department of Agriculture to find out the applicable measurements. It is sqm/animal. Then it must maintain a certain height, and I believe it must also be windproof from three sides.

But construction-wise, it's just about placing foundation blocks and setting up something like 4"x4" posts with a top beam and some rafters, or if you choose a slanted roof. Then just simple studs and nailing on paneling without locks, and screwing some sheet metal on the roof, and you're done.

hi
working on a similar project, but mine is 7*10 m.
if it's just for 4 horses, you don't need to apply for a preliminary approval from the county board, but you do otherwise.
you can find the measurements on the animal protection association's website, also lots of info if you call the county board, they've been a great help to me.
if you're going to feed in there, there are slightly different rules than if you're not, so keep that in mind.
technically, I can't help you much with construction... just consider the base as it becomes muddy easily, so reinforce the area.
we are currently digging, then it will be drainage pipes and macadam and surface 0.5
it will be pillars and metal sheets as kick protection inside up to 1.5 m

The Board of Agriculture only has rules that it should be sufficiently large for all possible animals to be inside, but no measurements. I'll also search on dsf.

I assume you're going to pour a concrete slab and have some loose substrate on top of this?

The intention was also to have feeding there, so if anyone has links to these regulations I would be grateful.

Soon it will be winter...

The minimum requirement for space in a shelter is 80% of what you need for a stall. Information can be found on the Swedish Board of Agriculture's website, but it can be a bit difficult to find. Go to Animals, Veterinary-Animal Protection-Horse-Dimension Regulations and you will find it.

Keep in mind to anchor it very securely, the ex had their horse in a stable where there was also such a wind shelter/outdoor stall, when it was stormy, it got uprooted and tipped over backwards. Fortunately, the horses were then in more stable stalls.

There are tremendous lift forces in such wind shelters when it blows from the right (wrong) direction.

Thanks for the tip, Haagbard. In this part of Sweden, we do know that it can be quite windy..
