Hello,

I live in an apartment from the 50s and know that it is common in houses from this era to have sand as insulation in the structure of the living room. Other rooms have concrete. Was the idea of using sand to soundproof? I can't think of any other reason. But what's amusing is that it makes more noise when walking on this "sand" floor than on the concrete floors. Maybe it has to do with having too much air between the sand and the oak floor, causing resonance.

It may sound more right where you are, but it dampens better against the lower apartment when playing music/TV?
