about whether the house can support an extension, an extra floor that is? What professional category should one turn to? Maybe completely the wrong place to ask but I didn't find a better subject.
Our house is from the 1920s and we have not received any drawings of it, the previous owners didn't have any either. Can they be found somewhere, with the municipality or something?

There are some people with dual competence as architects/building engineers and I think it might be good for you to talk to one of them. A small consultation to determine if it's even feasible need not be expensive at all.
When we were house hunting three years ago and were interested in a property that we would have needed to expand, I actually got in touch with a combined architect and building engineer with whom I had a couple of phone calls. Nothing more came of it since we didn't buy that house, but she seemed reasonable—she almost exclusively dealt with renovations and extensions of villas and had completed several projects with older villas in particular. I can PM you her name/phone/website if you're interested.
Regarding drawings, check with the municipality. For our house (in Stockholm city, built in 1927), the city planning office had the original drawings on microfiche.
