We are working on fixing up a small room on the upper floor. We have moved the window to gain a bit more reveal inside and laid a new solid spruce floor. Now we are working on the walls where the first thought was plasterboard directly on the panel, but I realize it isn't as firm as I had hoped, so I don't dare to plaster there. What do you think is hidden behind the panel on the exterior wall?
What little I saw during the window replacement was:
Inner panel
Plastic
Thin battens/laths that the inner panel is attached to (Hence, it doesn't feel so firm in all places)
Saw dust
Stud (At least around the window...)
Old exterior panel
Additional insulation
Wind paper
Exterior panel
How would you have done it? Remove the panel inside and put up with OSB-plasterboard? Insulate with wood fiber insulation instead of sawdust? Is the plastic necessary or is it just keeping the sawdust in place? There should be substantial vertical studs or logs somewhere inside the wall, I think...
The house was moved to its current location in the 1930s and has a log frame at least on the ground floor...
