Hello!
I'm clearing out the attic and found some wood that I'm not sure what to do with. Someone guessed it might be teak. Can anyone identify it? Upcycle or not? :)

  • Close-up of wooden planks, possibly teak, stacked on a stone surface.
  • Wood planks on a paved surface, possibly teak; user seeks identification for potential reuse.
  • A close-up of a light-colored wooden board with rounded edges on a workbench.

That seems to match when I google sauna bench, thank you for the help!

What type of tree is this? There have been pests on it, and I have filled those holes with black quick-drying glue (stain + quick-drying glue). So ignore the black holes :D.

  • A wooden board with a smooth surface, minor black fill-ins from repairs, and a question about identifying the wood species.

It looks like alder but alder doesn't have sapwood.

What do you mean?

It looks like it has a bright outer edge. Am I being fooled by the image?

I think the picture is a bit misleading, I don't perceive the edge as lighter. Thanks for the info, I guess it's Al then.

Alder has a darker heartwood than sapwood.

Always difficult to see from blurry pictures what it is, and it could very well be alder. Is it soft?

Maple has similar grain but you would usually also see the medullary rays as small dots.

I find that the wood is easy to work with but still feels quite hard. Hmm, so I would probably not say it's soft.
