Older wooden house from the 1930s with a concrete foundation (or is it cement?) and partially crawl space. It has a deck on poles about 1m above ground. It is directly connected to the foundation. It is exposed to the wind right through. It gets very cold in the space underneath, which cools down the basement where water pipes pass. Especially during winter, it is a problem. Considering hanging some type of boards around to the ground as protection against rain, wind, and cold. But what type of board material can withstand this over time? (It can be down to -30 during winter) Or are there other options?

Hello

Should it look nice or just protect against wind?

Wooden planks are probably the easiest to screw on.
Sheets of corten steel are likely to last a long time.
Fiber cement boards can also work

Thanks for the tips. Wooden planks risk being expensive. And difficult to access the space if needed. Corten steel sounds interesting

How many square meters need to be covered?

Regular pressure-treated decking should be the cheapest option to cover with. If you need to get under the patio, you can build a few hatches.

Good tips to take forward 🙂
