I need to patch up the house paneling after fiddling with the new windows.

Of course, I initially had vague measurements at least for the inner panel.

Outer: 120x22mm
Inner: 76-77x22mm
Distance between the outer: 30-35mm

The problem:
120x22 is available for purchase but not 76x22

So it's either 70x22 or 95x22...

Would you go with one of them, or buy the 95 and cut it down?

How important is it for the air gap to be the right size?

70 if you have the margins, i.e., if you don't need more than a 35 mm gap in the outer panel.

I would have gone with 95mm if there are no functional disadvantages, I'm not a carpenter. My reasoning is that there will be more material to nail into, reducing the risk of cracking at the edges, and I imagine it will be tighter and more secure against moisture since the overlap will be greater.

The panel should be custom-fitted. It can have different measurements.
Do not place the panel from one corner to another. It must be adapted.

It's not good because the outer panel shouldn't be nailed into the inner panel. The nails would then end up near the middle and wouldn't hold the panel as well.

Aha, then I'm with you, thanks for the clarification, then the overlap should be just right :)
