Hello!
I live in an apartment from the 60s and I'm planning to do some remodeling in my storage room. I've noticed that part of the wall has come off (see pictures).
Close-up of a damaged wall with peeling beige paint and exposed rough gray material, possibly concrete or plaster, in a 1960s apartment storage area. Close-up of a partially crumbled wall section in a storage area, revealing a textured, concrete-like material underneath the paint layer. A section of a wall in poor condition with cracked and crumbling plaster, exposing underlying materials, possibly indicating age or damage.
Does anyone know what this wall is made of?
I heard that you should be a bit careful before you start messing with walls as there can be asbestos in old houses. My question is simply if a trained eye can see what my wall is made of and if I should check this out? Or can I just start drilling? 😊
Thanks in advance! /Sandra

Looks like regular concrete.

If you live in an HOA, you might want to talk to the board as you probably don't own the wall and the storage?

Otherwise, check with the owner of the building if it's a rental property, the company likely wants a report on this and might handle repairs themselves.

Thank you so much! Yes, I will check with my association before I start with anything 😊
