Ceiling made of intertwined, flat, spaghetti-like strips, fragile and easily breakable, possibly from a 1970s hobby room or garage renovation. Ceiling with textured surface resembling "flat spaghetti" in a room, with sections demarcated. Light fixtures and a plant are visible in the setting. Close-up of ceiling material resembling flat spaghetti strands, with a person's finger pointing at it for scale, in a renovated room. We have a ceiling in a room in the house that was likely originally intended as a hobby room or garage, but it has parquet flooring and has had since the construction in 1970.

I wonder what kind of ceiling this is? What is it called, what is it made of, and any other points of interest.

It looks like "flat" spaghetti and if you handle it a bit roughly, it breaks into pieces.

There was originally a roof above, but now there's an extension, if that's of any help :)

See pictures / Thanks in advance!

Insulating, soundproofing, flame retardant, and moisture resistant.

Often used in parking garages and I have also seen it in several houses with attached garages. It is probably fairly soundproofing. However, it is worthless to screw into...

Also found in various schools around the country. Crumbles if you "accidentally" throw a ball at it.

Träullit... as several have said...
It is an excellent material that needs to be used more

Reviving the thread as I need to find insulation material for the floor against the crawl space in the log house. We have remediated house fungus, so cellulose feels risky if something comes to life... We have received advice on flax and hemp, but these are hard to find and quite expensive. Could this be a good alternative? The wood fibers appear to be covered in concrete, so maybe difficult for the fungus to grow in anyway...? Anyone know?
