What are telescopic beams called?

Hi,

I am wondering what those beams are called that stand upright and support a roof, for example? They are usually telescopic and made of steel.

I've seen them for temporary use and permanent use, where they are usually covered with plaster. I've really searched for everything on Google without finding any pictures or the correct name.
