Is there any place in the Stockholm area where you can take records to have them veneered? How much might that cost? Or can one even do that oneself?

What are you going to use them for?

You can buy pre-veneered MDF that can be used to build various furnishings. The veneer layer is thin, about 0.5 mm, so it's a bit sensitive to wear but works well for doors, wardrobes, and similar.

If you need thicker layers, you might have to leave it to a furniture maker. It can be done yourself, but it's quite a bit of a hassle.

Veneer and MDF can be bought at, for example, Fanerkompaniet in Värtahamnen or Träimporten in Östberga.

Thanks for the tip!

I'm going to build a bookshelf and I haven't found one with the right dimensions at the furniture stores. Therefore, I initially thought of building one in solid oak... but wow, how expensive that would be!

If you buy pre-veneered MDF, what happens with the edges then? Because I assume the panels aren't exactly the right dimensions and need to be cut.

Exactly, then you buy some oak and place a strip on the edges, preferably at least 5 mm thick, so you have some sanding margin in the future.

I guess it will be easiest to buy oak strips at some hardware store, otherwise check with, for example, Pondus Snickeri, they can manage most things.
There are of course many other smaller carpentry shops that can also provide strips.
