We are planning to install a new stretched fabric ceiling in the living room, which covers a little more than half of the upper floor. The attic above is cold with maybe 20-30 cm of wood chips and then an additional 20 cm of wood fiber insulation. Is it a good idea to install a vapor barrier on the roof sheathing before the ceiling is stretched?

It sounds like a good idea to reduce the amount of moisture in the insulation. At least in that part of the house.
 
Why not a vapor barrier, which is cheaper and better?

Yes, it's a thought, but I'm not sure it's good to completely prefer the house's physics in that way.
