I am building a new interior wall in the basement and framing for new electrical and other installations on an existing concrete wall. The interior wall is constructed with 7 cm steel studs and the concrete wall with 4.5 cm steel studs (for electrical and network installations), followed by OSB and 13 mm drywall. Since it's an office room for a computer enthusiast who works in IT, there will obviously be quite a few outlets in the walls.

Now the idea is to possibly add another layer of drywall for better soundproofing and "weight" in the wall. Since it's a basement room with quite a lot of valuable items (especially what's on the computers), fire and burglary risks are reasons I feel an additional layer of drywall is an affordable insurance... But does this work with electrical boxes (both junction and device boxes) for double drywall?

There are enhancement rings.

If it's burglary you're afraid of, a layer of drywall won't make much of a difference; instead, invest in burglary-resistant metal in the wall. As for sound, seal all gaps in the first layer of boards with acoustic sealant, it makes a difference.

If the inner ring can be screwed out at least one drywall, then for that matter, there shouldn't be any problems.
