We have removed the gypsum on the outside of a WC wall and found transverse planks between the studs. What is this for? The house was built in 1970 and it's not a load-bearing wall as far as we know. However, it meets a load-bearing wall on the left. Can anyone help us understand this?

Battens for attaching things like sinks, cabinets, mirrors, etc.

Maybe to screw things into. Mirror cabinet or other.

Ah, okay. So you don't think this wall is supportive in any way to the load-bearing wall on the left?

Probably not.
