I was planning to build a new transom on the boat (Fiberglass Monark (20 hp)) and wonder which material is best.. plywood or formplywood or such, and how to treat it to be in the water almost 24/7 all summer. Does anyone with experience or knowledge know?

Plywood if you want wood in the transom.
There are also other core materials that do not absorb water, but they are usually a bit more expensive.

There are plenty of tips on other boat forums, but I don't know if you're allowed to link there according to the forum rules here.

okay.. thank you thank you.. just thought to ask here seemed like the fastest

Birch plywood has the property of absorbing plastic well. Formply is the opposite, you'll have difficulty getting the plastic to adhere.

We replaced the transom and engine beams on my previous boat. At the drive, 3 layers of 12mm fiberglassed birch plywood.

It was an inboard with 415hp, and the transom is still holding as far as I know. Feel free to ask if there's anything.

Good luck, regards V8dc
