Hello!

My wife and I are sprucing up a closet in our old house, and when we removed the old outer paneling that was in the closet, parts of the chimney stack appeared that could use a little love, especially since we want to avoid having old mortar crumble.

Is it okay to buy regular mortar and plaster over it after brushing away the loose parts? Or how would you have done it?

Thanks in advance!

I would go with gypsum. Much easier to work with when you're not experienced.
