Good evening!

I'm renovating a small outdoor building and have torn down most of the walls to get decent heating in it.

In the wall, there are 45x120mm studs, the insulation that was there was so disgusting that it has been thrown away, BUT I have a bunch (about 200sqm) of 45mm insulation from previous projects, so I started thinking about using it.

So the question is, to put in 3 layers of 45mm insulation and get 135mm total between 120mm studs?
It's only maintenance heating that will be about 15 degrees, so it doesn't need to be super meticulous, or is it too much insulation for a 120 wall?

15mm plus should hardly be measurable… maybe a bit more cumbersome to insert, but it's doubtful that it would be a big problem.

That's kind of what I thought too, just have to wriggle it in the best way possible haha! But thanks for the reply anyway and have a nice evening!

If you put in too much insulation and have 600mm center-to-center, there is a risk that the sheet material might sag a little. 15mm should be fine, glass wool can be compressed more than stone wool.

You can split a 45mm, which gives you about 110mm; that's what I would have gone with.

Yes, I was considering that too, but OSB and a gypsum board 1200 wide on cc60 studs shouldn't bulge, right? But I'll have to try both thicknesses and see what works best. :)

If there's too much insulation, it can definitely bulge. But 15 mm shouldn't be a problem.
