For those having issues with mice and/or rats in split-level houses:
Tried several different solutions but it's been rodent-free for a couple of years now, used:
1) Metal angle to seal against the bottom nail batten
2) Metal mesh attached with perforated straps (screwed to the foundation wall)
You can see the bottom edge of the vertical panel in the upper left corner.

Have you closed the air gaps in the exterior panel with the metal?
Have you closed the air gaps in the outer panel with the sheet metal?
You want to avoid that at all costs...
No, it only covers the lower nail batten, a rat had gnawed through it earlier.
...
Z-panel sometimes has milled grooves on the backside, that is the only air gap that comes with vertical boards.
