What are your tips for safely cutting small corner pieces of moldings without pieces flying off, etc., with a regular miter saw?
These are small pieces down to just a centimeter by two centimeters, the smallest. And I usually use a sacrificial board in the form of an L profile, i.e., covering both the bottom and the back against the fence, but still don't think it's safe enough. It cracks and splinters and so on. The smaller the pieces, the worse, of course.
It's almost worst when there are really narrow corner pieces of a high molding. If the molding is 145mm high but only 15mm thick, it becomes a piece that on the diagonal is half of 15x15x145mm. And then it's not in the fiber direction either
...so it's fragile too!
How on earth should I go about not getting a total brain hemorrhage? Nailing the pieces is the next brain hemorrhage, but I usually manage with a drill, a few nails, and some glue. As long as it holds, that's enough.
Do I really have to build a sled for the table saw or? I'd really like to do this with the miter saw, namely.
