Hey.
Start another thread....
We're going to build a fence, and the fence should be painted. My idea was to buy lumber, cut it nicely, and then start painting, but what kind of wood should be used? Planed wood is really expensive, so you might as well buy ready-made planks.
Would cladding boards work? The problem that might arise is that one side won't look as nice... Hopefully, someone has the right answer

Then it doesn’t matter, if you are going to paint with a modern plastic paint it will rot in 10-15 years anyway.P Pappa1986 said:
My fence is untreated and is original from 1961! Every few years I power wash the growth so the sun can dry out all the moisture.
Compare it to a half-timbered barn that has stood in a field for hundreds of years without rotting.

There is paint without plastic.

Built a balcony railing this summer and we bought planed wood from a small sawmill in the countryside. It was a bit cheaper than the regular hardware stores anyway, e.g., 30 SEK/m for 22x95 mm. Such a piece weighed like a 45x95 mm at Bauhaus. Now, we wanted quite a high finish and were careful to ensure that the wood was of the highest quality; it wasn't that large of a volume anyway. Otherwise, one could probably find a balance and get better pricing.
