Tiling standards?

Hello,

possibly this is the wrong forum... maybe it should be under bathroom... but I'll try here first.

I have a somewhat general question.
Wondering how uneven tiles can be in depth and still be approved.
Like if a tile has sunk in or sticks out compared to the adjacent tile.
Wonder if anyone knows where to find these. I looked in the new rules from the ceramists' council but there was nothing about this.
