Hello,

we are renovating our 50s house and have now reached the kitchen, where we plan to take down the old tiles and put up new ones, extending the tiling a bit on one wall. In many other rooms, there are masonite boards on the walls, and I suspect it's the same in the kitchen. Can you tile on it? Gypsum is standard nowadays.

In our previous bathroom, tiles were placed directly on masonite board (nailed to wooden battens), and that worked well too.

The tiles that are there today are holding well, and the grout hasn't cracked, not even in corners or against the sink (where you would use silicone today).

If anyone has experience/tips, I would be grateful.....

We have tiles on masonite in the kitchen and we've had them since '86, no problems with things like cracked grout.
