Hello!
I'm planning to tile my entire bathroom (vinyl flooring on the floor). I've applied primer and a moisture barrier to all walls except on the chimney breast which is plastered. The breast is positioned so that it won't be exposed to direct water contact.

I'm wondering if I need to apply primer to the plaster for the tiles to adhere?
(I personally think it might be better not to have primer on the chimney breast since the primer is waterproof, and a chimney probably benefits from being able to absorb and release some moisture by itself. As long as the tiles stick without primer)

If it works without primer, do I need to moisten the tiles before attaching them to the plastered chimney breast?
(Concern, maybe the plaster causes the tile adhesive to dry too quickly, causing the tiles to detach)

Best regards,
Pelle

No one here who can do tiling?

Try asking in the bathroom section.

I haven't done it myself, but in my old house, part of the chimney is tiled. Partly with cement-based (old) adhesive, partly with something resembling lime mortar. But making it stick shouldn't be a problem. If you're worried about drying out too quickly, you can dampen the plaster before you start.

I also believe, like you, that the best thing for a chimney is to be able to absorb and release a bit of moisture as needed.

Go for it, or if you're cautious, use a single test tile and test its adhesion after drying.
