I am going to tile towards a corner, an outer corner.
The mistake I made is not cutting the drywall but instead putting up a whole drywall sheet, meaning the bevel for joint compound is now at the very edge.
Do I need to level it with compound, or can I just use thicker adhesive?
Then it will be covered with some corner trim or something.

Minor deviations are easy to fix with the patch, I think, has worked well when I've tiled at least.
You can pre-fix once. Let it dry. Then you have a good level for the final fix.

It's only a mm, so apply a thin layer on that part of the plate that's there and carry on as usual.
