The screw no longer has a slot. How do I get it out?
One can make new grooves with a multi-cutter, Dremel, or some other tool. Alternatively, drill a small hole in the middle and use a screw extractor if you have one of the right size.

Or you can drill off the head of the screw if it doesn't matter that the remnants stay in the wood behind.

It can sometimes be a bit tricky, but screw extractors are usually the easiest.

Exactly. There are X number of methods to remove such a screw, but the reason I specifically recommended a Torx bit is partly because it works well, but mainly because it's something almost everyone has in their toolbox. And if you don't have one, you can find it in any hardware, technology, or hobby store. Yes, even in a well-stocked grocery store.D Dilato said:
So if it comes down to not being able to get hold of a Torx bit, you're probably helpless unfortunately.
