Temporary 12m long beam
Yes, the purpose of the "flänsen" is not to enhance the load-bearing capacity of the structure, but to create lateral stability so that the load-bearing part does not shift sideways. But by all means, continue the theoretical discussions 
I have screwed three boards together into a 12m long | beam and it seems to hold up without problems in terms of its own weight and should support a bit more. We'll see what the future holds

Can't TS rent a circus tent instead, so I don't have to be embarrassed anymore about my obviously blurry hållf skills?

On each short side, an appropriately tall upright beam is mounted. Wire or thick rope is stretched between them and anchored at an angle in the ground, e.g., in a ground pipe. Strap tensioners or push blocks for the tensioning. Each upright beam additionally has extra rope tensioned down for side stabilization. A platform is placed on top. The sides of the platform are tensioned down and anchored to reduce the risk of flapping.
Practiced hundreds of times every summer when scouts around the country have camps.

The length of 12m just means you need to adjust a little, thicker rope, more tension and anchoring.
