Working on the basement and renovating a room.

I've removed all the drywall from the outer walls. What's left is an interior wall. (They had drywalled directly onto the concrete).

Drainage on the outside will be done in a few years. It's not particularly damp there now or visible moisture damage.

Is it necessary to remove the drywall on the interior wall as well, or would you skip it?

The plan is to set metal studs & drywall, as well as add shadow molding and ventilated baseboard on the outer wall.

I'm considering if it's unnecessary work to tear down the interior wall too.

What would you do?

  • Basement room stripped of plasterboard, showing concrete walls, window, and door. Tools and debris on the floor indicate ongoing renovation work.
  • Basement room under renovation with exposed concrete walls and a removed gypsum wall. A saw and scattered debris on the floor indicate ongoing work.
No, not if it is dry and nice, work in vain.
