We have started planning the renovation of the kitchen/living room.
We have a 40s/50s house for which we want a more open floor plan.
No matter how I draw away walls and move and turn the kitchen layout, I feel the chimney is in the way.
Is it possible to remove it from the main floor where the kitchen will be and just close the floor and ceiling and leave it in the basement and upper floor, and then the problem is solved?
Or will the house collapse with the chimney?

We are installing district heating, so using wood for heat will never be necessary again.
Or should you never say never???

Grateful for advice and tips!

You can't just remove a floor in the chimney. The weight from the upper floor's chimney rests on the chimney on the lower floor. It’s also not entirely impossible that the floor is attached to the chimney too.

The chimney is the heart of the house.
Utilize its charm instead of seeing it as a problem.
