Hi,

I have a 1950s house with lightweight concrete walls. I am now considering tearing down a number of these, and naturally, some of them are load-bearing. Don't worry - I plan to seek help from a structural engineer, but I'm curious about what effect this will have on my other projects in the house.

When making a beam calculation with a steel beam, how is it anchored to the floor? Should it be placed directly on the concrete slab, meaning I need to break up the subfloor to access the concrete slab? Or is it sufficient to place (appropriately) the steel beam on the "rest" of the wall that is preferably taken down to the top of the subfloor?

How is the anchoring done - bolts, welding/embedding??

Best regards,
/Magnus
