I have a wall-mounted toilet where the cistern and its steel frame are built into a tiled "box" made of waterproof boards. This box has a wooden lid that currently just lies loosely on top. The tile edge up against the wooden lid isn't neatly finished, it's a bit uneven and such. The idea was to run a bead of silicone there, but I think it might be good to be able to remove the wooden lid, so I don't want it to stick to the silicone, just rest on the silicone edge.

I am thinking of putting something on the underside of the wooden lid that silicone doesn't adhere to, for example, some tape of a suitable material, apply the silicone, let it cure, and then lift the lid off. Remove the tape and put the wooden lid back. I might place some spacer between the wooden lid and the waterproof boards it rests on before applying the silicone so that the lid really makes contact with the silicone when I put it back.

Is there any good material to use that silicone doesn't stick to? Maybe some plastic? Or as mentioned, tape?

A bit tricky to get it smooth perhaps, but it might sort itself out when you press out the silicone.

Depends on how you lay it out, it can be stretched so it becomes smooth, persistence is good so it works. Maybe two people working, cling film has a tendency to stick together.

If it is Polyethylene (PE) you need, then it should also work with cut-out pieces from a regular black garbage bag, maybe?

Maybe it works with a waxed surface?

The protective paper on double-sided tape doesn't allow much to stick to it.

Apply "as usual"; allow to cure and then cut loose the cover cap with a razor blade.

Cut? I probably won't be able to make it look neat...

Secure the lid. Cut it loose the day it's needed.

A little old thread, but someone else might find it. I just learned that silicone does not adhere to regular brown cardboard tape (in my case, it would have been good if it did)
