Hello,

A professional company is going to remove asbestos cement sheets (asbestos) in the basement. These sheets were installed before the interior walls were erected, meaning they run over the interior walls. I now have to decide whether these interior walls should be temporarily torn down at the top to completely remove the asbestos sheets, or if I should be content with having the last bit painted with dust-binding paint.

  1. For the first option, is it as simple as those interior walls that are flat walls according to the construction drawing (assuming that means non-load bearing) can be demolished while brick walls cannot? Or is a structural engineer's load-bearing calculation required?
  2. Any input on the choice to remove the entire asbestos sheet or use binding paint on leftover pieces?

Flat wall usually means that the walls are made of aerated concrete panels. The drawing shows the dimensions and directions of the beams in the floor structure above. They are definitely not load-bearing.
