I will lower the ceiling and install new boards in the 45x45 beams. The beams will be a maximum of 2.70 in length.
Now I'm wondering what strength grade I should choose for the beams?
C-24, G4-2, other?
Uncertain about what you mean. But if you have a 2.70 span, without additional anchor points, I think that 45x45 is too weak, regardless of the quality you choose. There's a risk it will sag.
