I am going to build storage for tires under the roof of the carport. I'm considering attaching crossbeams to the visible rafters 70x195 using some kind of spacer so that the storage depth becomes about 230-240mm, allowing the tires to fit. On the crossbeams, I plan to attach 4 spruce plywood with hinges that fold down, and on these, I attach a holder for the tires before the hatch is lifted and closed with a latch and secured. Any tips or ideas anyone?

Can you lift the hatch with 4 tires on? Sounds heavy.

I suspect that it might get very hot up there when the sun is out; if that's the case, it is not an optimal environment for tires to be stored in.

No, not 4 tires on one hatch but 4 hatches with 1 tire on each.

Sounds like the solution is already in place, what advice are you looking for? :)

Thinking mainly about materials, does the choice of spruce plywood work outdoors, for example?

Why a plywood board?
Place two studs 45x45 or sparse panel 28x70 about 500 mm apart and just toss up the wheels.
It becomes a bit more airy.

But I also think it could be tough due to the heat up there under the roof.

As Gabbe1 pointed out, tires should be stored in a dark and cool place. Worth considering before you put too much work into the whole thing.
