Hi, I am going to demolish a load-bearing wall between the kitchen and the living room, the opening will be 3.6 m
The house is a half-plan, 8m wide, 12m long, the load-bearing wall is in the middle along the length.
How strong of a steel beam do I need?
Kind regards, Göran

Ideally, you'd want to see some drawings first. But if it's a heart wall in the middle of the house where you're opening up and normal usage of the upper floor, the design load should be in the order of 10 kN/m. This means an HEA 160 with a deflection of L/600. Then, substantial supports are required for such a beam. It's not a given that you can arrange that.

That is a measure that requires a building notification to the municipality and a start permit before beginning demolition. In the notification, you must, among other things, show that you have calculated the beam and its supports at the ends according to the existing loads.
Of course, you can do it without notification if you absolutely want to, but it will be an unauthorized construction with all that entails.

I have an opening of 5 meters where there is no load-bearing wall, as it is between the "matrum" and living room.
The beam we have is an HEA 200 mm

My calculation includes margins, but drawings are the best way to verify them.
