Hello!

I wonder if anyone knows if there is any standard for how high a threshold should be from a balcony door? The case is for a plastered facade. That is, for a balcony door, what the threshold should be between the finished balcony floor and the bottom edge of the balcony door. Should it be as low as possible, or are there problems with rain in that case?

Best regards, Niklas.

According to the current accessibility regulations, the level must be the same and the threshold's height must not exceed 20 mm above F.G. Slightly higher may be permitted if it is beveled.

However, this is a foolish rule from a moisture safety standpoint, but that's another issue.

Thanks for the answers Åsa and falkn. I also thought that 20 or 30 mm seems low. Does the accessibility rule mean that it is a mandatory rule or can you do as you like on your own house?

It is mandatory in new construction, but does not apply if the space is otherwise inaccessible, e.g., a balcony on the second floor of a building without an elevator.
