I am amazed by the total lack of standardized thinking about building materials.
I am in the process of building a wooden upper floor on a cast and masonry basement floor. It's a frame construction.
All studs and beams have the dimensions 45 x something, but NOT laminated beams, which are 42 or 56 x something? Reinforcing a frame construction with laminated beams becomes tricky, the thicknesses don't match, WHY?
Then we come to the standard distance between the studs, which is C/C 600, but the stud is 45, so the distance BETWEEN the studs is 555... but the EPS insulation is 600 wide AND 50 or 100 thick! WHY?
Don't EPS manufacturers want to sell their products for wall insulation, or are they just ignorant?
Don't laminated beam manufacturers want us to be able to integrate and use their products except in special constructions?
This is how we did it in grandpa's time... seems to be the standard answer. Didn't think of that...
