Lifting the thread a bit !! 
I don't understand why stairs have to be so endlessly expensive. The construction has been used for a countless number of years and should be well-established, and otherwise, it's mostly just a bit of wood.
We've looked a bit at alternatives to the standard pine staircase and thought of something modern and airy with perhaps an underlying stringer and stainless steel or glass railing or similar...
I've also seen that there are wrought iron stairs and other alternatives to traditional wooden stairs... but I assume these are even more expensive....
As mentioned, stairs seem to be an expensive story.... :-?
Tips and ideas for alternatives are welcome...
Maybe someone has found a cheaper and nicer solution?
