We are going to build a staircase on the east side of the house. Relatively weather-protected location. Pressure-treated wood is easy to work with and cheap but requires some maintenance. Plastic composite can be a bit tricky to assemble and costs significantly more but is maintenance-free. (maybe) Has anyone built a staircase out of plastic composite and can share their experience? We want the staircase to be dark gray and will paint it if built with wood. Plastic composite is available in various colors. We have also heard that composite plastic can become quite hot in the summer. A bit annoying if you want to sit or stand on the staircase.
