Stair renovation - glued laminated boards?
Are there any disadvantages to using laminated wood panels for treads and risers when renovating a staircase? I'm thinking of gluing and screwing a piece from underneath the tread to create a stair nose. Is the thickness of the panels at 18 mm a disadvantage? Planning to use oak panels.

A disadvantage of doing it that way is that the lowest and highest steps will have a differing step height compared to the other steps.
I have the same concern. Ready-made stair kits seem unreasonably expensive. The extra millimeters on the first and last step don't bother me. One thought I have is whether the glue joint will move with the humidity and if that means they should be laid "floating" to prevent cracking. I'm thinking of gluing at the front edge and holding it down at the back with an oak strip. I see that for ready-made renovation kits, they recommend full gluing, but as I said, I'm hesitant. Today, I bought an oak glued panel, I will cut it tomorrow and test it.......
