Hi!

I have quite recently moved into a new home built in 2003. The stairs here in the house creak a lot, which isn't a big deal, but it's mostly annoying. It becomes a bit bothersome when someone needs to get up early or something, as the creaking wakes the other person up.

I've tried to investigate the stairs a bit and think I've found what's causing the creaking. The stairs have a "bend" in them, and that seems to be where the creaking occurs. I've attached two pictures; I tried supporting/lifting in the "bend" while my partner went up and down, and the creaking almost stopped completely. When I let go, I could see that it moves there when she walks.

What can be done about this? Is it possible to install some kind of leg or something similar to support there?

Thanks in advance!

  • White staircase with a visible bend, potential cause of creaking noise; wooden floor and robotic vacuum base nearby.
  • White interior staircase with a curved section, showing potential movement causing creaking sounds. Stairs are made of wood, leading to an upper floor.
